Yesterday, I recorded and edited a piece for an audiobook audition. It was good, and I loved the material—it was about stoicism for our time. I was eager to get the project and see how it stacked up to Ryan Holiday’s, “The Daily Stoic,” and what it might add.
I guess I wasn’t the only one with the idea. The author closed down auditions before I could submit mine. Lesson learned: MOVE FAST.
I recorded another one last night for a book about online hustles. That is definitely in my wheelhouse, so as soon as I saw it, I recorded something around 11:00 PM and edited this morning. One thing I learned there is that the quality of my voice is much, much better in the evening (especially after eight hours of talking on the phone at my day job), and that made the editing process go that much faster.
Ready to submit, annnnnnd…
Audtions closed.
Lesson RE-learned: MOVE FAST.
That’s frustrating and challenging because producing high-quality work takes time. You don’t want to rush it. Even a small mic pop can ruin your chances when you have (likely) hundreds of competitors to contend with.
So, what’s a voice over artist and narrator to do?
Get better.
Get faster.
Learn your voice. Prepare it. Perfect your systems. Plan ahead.
And MOVE.
Anyway, here’s the thing I recorded last night. I want to do SOMETHING with it. Lol.
